The nature of the new EU battery regulations has changed from previous directives to regulations, which will improve the consistency of their implementation among EU member states. The new battery regulation has a total of 117 pages and contains 96 articles and 15 appendices. The new battery regulations have made detailed requirements on the restriction of harmful substances in batteries, carbon footprint, cycle content, battery performance and durability, energy storage battery safety, battery labeling and information disclosure, battery compliance evaluation, quality system, supply chain due diligence, waste battery management, battery passport, etc.
The new EU battery regulations mandate carbon footprint reporting and must meet EU PEF standards and be EU certified before they can be sold in the EU market. This policy will have a huge impact on Chinese battery and electric vehicle exporters and even all companies in this value chain.
