Power over Ethernet POE (power over Ethernet) refers to the power over Ethernet (POE) in the existing Ethernet cat 5. The technology of providing DC power supply for some IP based terminals (such as IP telephone, wireless LAN access point AP, network camera, etc.) while transmitting data signals without any changes to the wiring infrastructure.
Poe is also known as local area network based power supply system (pol, power over LAN) or active Ethernet. Sometimes it is also referred to as Ethernet power supply. It is the latest standard specification for simultaneous transmission of data and electric power by using existing standard Ethernet transmission cables, and maintains compatibility with existing Ethernet systems and users. Poe technology can ensure the normal operation of the existing network while ensuring the safety of the existing structured cabling and minimize the cost. The IEEE 802.3af standard is a new standard based on the power supply system over Ethernet (POE). It adds relevant standards for direct power supply through network lines on the basis of IEEE 802.3. It is an extension of the existing Ethernet standard and also the first international standard for power distribution. The system composition of Poe includes two parts: power sourcing equipment (PSE) and power receiving device (PD). Based on the IEEE 802.3af standard, the system establishes information contact about the connection condition, device type, power consumption level and other aspects of the power receiving device PD, and supplies power to the PD through Ethernet according to the PSE.
